From the FAIRY TALES ARE DARK series where we get real with the story. Not for younger kids.
Ready to get real with the Hansel and Gretel story?
Once upon a time a brother and sister lived at the edge of the woods with their father and wicked stepmother. Their story is one you probably wouldn’t want to live. Well, except for the gingerbread house full of sweets, cakes and lollies. Now, the children knew that their father loved them very much but he was very easily misled by their wicked stepmother who couldn’t wait to get rid of them.
Hansel and Gretel were eavesdropping one night and overheard their wicked stepmother plotting to get them killed by wild animals by taking them into the forest and leaving them alone over night.
Dark.
Knowing her evil plan, when they went out the next day, they left a trail of bread as a way of finding their way back home. Sadly the plan didn't work as the bread got eaten by a greedy bird. But as they were walking through the dark woods, they came across a pretty little gingerbread house covered in sweets, cakes and lollies.
Winner.
So, Hansel and Gretel ate the house.
Like you do.
Inside the gingerbread house was a wicked witch who didn’t like her house being eaten. So she locked Hansel in a cage …. to fatten him up… so she could make a delicious stew out of him.
Whoa What?
The witch wanted to cook up the kid to eat him. And she forced his sister Gretel to become a feeder, cooking him food every day to fatten him up.
Cannibalism at its finest.
Gretel, being the don’t-mess-with-me sister she was, pushed the witch into the oven so that she burnt to death.
Then she stole the witch’s jewellery and went home.
The stepmother was gone and they lived happily ever after with their father living off the jewellery funds.
Kids story?
The End.
